Time lapse video of a thin crescent moon setting behind broken cloud, as seen from the West Shore at Llandudno

This is the last of a series of time lapse videos that I've been shooting and compiling around Snowdonia and the North Wales coast over the past three weeks, this time featuring the new crescent moon setting behind broken clouds.

Shooting and processing time lapse is a time and computer memory consumeing process, but one that I find very engaging.

Still, it will be nice to get back to creating a few 'ordinary' still images for a bit!

As usual, a click on the thumbnail will take you to watch the videos are read a bit more about them.

These two time lapse videos, showing beautiful scenery from the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, were filmed withing a quarter of a mile of each other around Llyn Ogwen and the Nant Ffrancon valley on the same summer's afternoon.

Snowdonia is just crammed end to end with stunning views, especially when the weather is as nice as this.

While touring around my favourite haunts in the Snowdonia National Park I decided on a whim to stop at a spot I know on the small river Afon Lledr, just outside Betws-y-coed.

Well to cut a long story short, what was supposed to have been a few minutes' looksee turned into an hour and a half's worth of shooting time lapse and video while perched on a rock in the middle of the flow.

You can watch the outcome of my endeavours by clicking on the thumbnail images, and read a bit more about the making of these videos as well.

And don't forget that almost all of my videos are available for commercial licensing from my stock agencies Pond5 and Videoblocks.

Short and sweet, this time lapse video shows the milky way passing over the dam at Alwen Reservoir, North Wales, before clouds rolled in and put paid to the show for that particular night.

We've moved from the North Wales coast a few miles inland to the beautiful Alwen Reservoir for today's panoramic image here at goHOWiE.com.

I love discovering a new place to hike and photograph, especially when the scenery is as dramatic as Liz and I found on our first visit to the reservoir of Marchlyn Mawr, high up in the Glyderau mountains in the Snowdonia National Park.

But it was a cup of coffee and a scone at the Moel Siabod Café that started us on our quest.

Imagine hiking up a hill and then being confronted with a view like this.

I'm blessed in that I don't have to use my imagination, as views like this one from the top of the Sychnant Pass on the North Wales coast are just a 45 minute drive away from my home.

Panoramic image of the countryside and hills surrounding Llyn Mymbyr in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales

When driving through the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, I almost always stop at Llyn Mymbyr to take in the views over the peaks of Moel Siabod and the Snowdon Horseshoe.

But on this occasion it was something much less grand, but no less beautiful, that caught my eye and resulted in this panoramic collage.

Time lapse video showing the change from day to night over the town and castle of Conway on the North Wales coast

A clear evening's weather was all the incentive I needed last Monday to go for a climb up the Sychnant Pass, overlooking Conway on the North Wales coast.

This is a stunning viewpoint, and I took full advantage of the two hours I had up there to film this time lapse sequence showing the transition from day to night over Conway castle.

A weekend of active weather over the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales found my wife Liz and I dodging the showers and revelling in the magnificent mountain scenery on display.

These three time lapse videos were all taken around Snowdon, during the spells of mixed sunshine and cloud, during that time, and feature some impressive cloud action.

I was so taken with my time lapse video of sunset clouds over Moel Famau (see yesterday's blog entry) that I selected these two stills from the sequence I shot that evening.

The two images show different stages of the sunset and twilight, but both feature a human figure (not me!) silhouetted on the walls of the ruined Jubilee Tower on Moel Famau's summit.

9th August 2017

Time lapse video of clouds at sunset over the Jubilee Tower on the summit of Moel Famau in the Clywdian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), North Wales

I can't count the number of times I've turned up in a North Wales beauty spot, hoping for a lovely sunset to time lapse, only to be twarted by the weather turning everything a featureless grey.

So I really, really love it when the opposite happens and what I thought would be a washout filming session turns unexpectedly into something magical.

Such as last Monday evening, on top of my local hill Moel Famau, in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

8th August 2017

Time lapse video of clouds over the beach and castle at Criccieth on the North Wales coast

It's quite a long drive for Liz and I to get to Criccieth at the base of the Llyn Peninsula on the North Wales coast, but the trip though the mountains of Snowdonia is spectacular, and Criccieth itself is a charming seaside town with lovely views.

So every now and then we make the effort, and this time we were rewarded with a lovely evening which I recorded in this short time lapse video.

7th August 2017

Time lapse video of clouds over the dam at Alwen Reservoir, North Wales

Another weekend of active weather in the skies over North Wales found Liz and myself out and about dodging the showers and enjoying some magnificent scenery while shooting a few more time lapse videos.

Time lapse video of the outgoing tide at dusk on the Menai Straits between Anglesey and the North Wales coast Time lapse video of a striking wave cloud over the North Wales coast at sunset, as seen from the West Shore at Llandudno

A touch of déja vu here at goHOWie.com, with two time lapse videos from locations on the North Wales coast that I've photographed many, many times in the past.

But with ever changing light, weather and tidal conditions there's always some new beauty to discover in these familiar places.

Time lapse video of various watersports on Llyn Padarn at Llanberis in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales Time lapse video of various watersports on Llyn Padarn at Llanberis in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, as seen from the famous lone tree

I love it when you visit a place you've been to many times before, and maybe you think is getting a bit photographically stale, only to find some completely new views to explore and enjoy.

Such was the case at Llyn Padarn in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, when a turn down a previously ignored side road opened up a whole new range of photographic opportunity.

Click on the images to watch the time lapse videos I shot here just last weekend, and to read a bit more about them.

Time lapse video of dramatic clouds over the peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, as seen from Llyn Mymbyr Time lapse video of dramatic clouds and light over the peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales

Is it August already?!

Looking at my archived files, I've still got to sort out stuff from last March, and going out shooting time lapse videos isn't helping in catching up with the backlog of work at all!

Still, when the weather's good (read 'interesting') then you don't want to be sat in front of a computer keywording images, so I don't feel too guilty about tramping around Snowdonia last weekend looking and photographing wonderful plays of light.

Just click on the thumbnails to watch the videos of Snowdon, and to read a bit more about them.

And don't forget that almost all of my videos are available for commercial licensing from my stock agencies Pond5 and Videoblocks.
