Puffin Island, just off the southeastern tip of Anglesey on the North Wales coast, is a protected seabird sanctuary and it's wonderful to sit on the rocks near the Penmon Point lighthouse and listen to the cries of the birds echoing across the water on a still summer's morning.
And for a couple of weeks either side of midsummer's day there's an additional treat in store, as the sun rises directly behind Puffin Island, giving some dramatic lighting effects for one's early morning photography sessions.
Mind you, an early start is necessary to catch the 4.45am sunrise, but that just adds to the enjoyment, as there's no-one else there but you and the raucous seabirds!
