The story behind this image

One of the loveliest places that Liz and I visited during our week long stay on the southwest Atlantic coast of Ireland was Ardmore.

We came here twice, with the first visit being spent sat firmly in the car as four seasons' worth of weather arrived in the space of half an hour.

You can watch this amazing weather on my time lapse video looking over Ardmore beach to get some idea of why we didn't venture out!

However, with an improvement in the weather we made a second effort to explore this seaside town, under much more pleasureable, if less dramatic, conditions.

This is an area redolent with historical remains, including this fantastic round tower, one of the best preserved in the whole of Ireland.

So of course I took some effort to photograph it, surrounded by the graves of St Declan's church, under the somewhat incongrous and unusual spring sunshine.

The tower is quite tall and imposing, and I needed a very wide 17mm lens to fit it in the frame, followed by some distortion corrections in Adobe Photoshop to keep the tower straight.
