The story behind this image

Most of the hiking trails around the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales involve a great deal of up and down.

Fine if you're wanting a lung busting stint of exercise, but if a more gentle experience is more to your liking then the gentle gradients of the path that leads from Capel Curig along the lovely Ogwen Valley is just right.

With dramatic and beautiful scenery to enjoy in every direction, on a nice day there's nothing better than a slow hike, stopping regularly to take photos of the mountains and moorland as you pass slowly by.

It was a gorgeous spring day in April 2018 when my wife Liz and I took this path, and with patches of sunlight and shadow streaming across the landscape from the banks of cumulus clouds scudding by overhead, we made very slow progress as I had to stop every few paces to take yet another photo!

This particular image was taken midway through our expedition, and features an isolated old, bent and stunted tree set against the rock strewn moors and mountains for which this part of the world is justly famous.
