The story behind this image

In the autumn of 2020 my wife Liz and I managed to get away for a couple of days, staying locally in the lovely Herons Lake Retreat near Caerwys in Flintshire, North Wales.

With a beautiful sunny day ahead of us, we set off on a four hour hike through the Clywdian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), skirting the hill fort of Pen-y-Cloddiau before heading back over the tops of the mountains, following the wonderful Offa's Dyke path, returning to our starting point at Moel-y-Parc.

The high ground of Moel-y-Parc boasts a huge transmitter aerial, which is visible for miles around and has featured in many of my photos and videos, so I was looking forward to seeing and photographing the aerial and surrounding scenery from a much more immediate location that I was used to.

And I wasn't disappointed, with broken cloud casting patches of sunlight and shadow over the landscape conditions were perfect to show the beauty of this part of North Wales to its full advantage, with the huge aerial providing a definitive focal point to my compositions.

What a great way to end a day's hiking!
