The story behind this image

With a spring tidal in excess of 8 metres, coupled with, shall we say 'active', weather, the North Wales coast gets regularly battered with high winds and large waves.

A great place to see this battle between sea and land is at Colwyn Bay, where huge spumes of wave spray are regularly thrown up and over the seawall and onto the adjacent promenade.

All of which makes for some exciting, but risky photography, as I once had my camera seriously damaged by an unexpected wave breaking over me, soaking the electronics in salt water - not good!

But apart from spray constantly fogging up my graduated filter I got away unscathed from this particular shoot while getting as close as practical to the watery action.

I was shooting images here for quite some time, waiting for rare patches of sunlight to play over the foreground which made the wave splash stand out really well against the dark, storm wracked sky.
