The story behind this image

Early autumn on the North Wales coast and there's a hint of coolness to the sea air as my wife Liz and I sit watching the light fade as the tide goes out from the Conwy estuary at Deganwy.

A stillness falls over the coast, puncutated only by the mournful cry of a solitary seagull as night draws its blanket over the waters.

In the distance the red beacon of a nagivation buoy shines defiantly as a single point of light against the darkness, a mere pinprick in the surrounding gloom.

Time for just a couple more photos then, before heading home to the warmth and light of our insulated lives.

A long lens compresses the scene, adding a touch of mystery as the landscape is reduced to the barest of elements and colours while a long exposure smooths most of the texture from the ebbing tide.

A beautiful and somewhat melancholy rendition of a scene that's usually seen under very different circumstances.
