The story behind this image

The cliffs overlooking Widemouth Bay on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall proved to be the perfect viewpoint from where to take in the dramatic coastal scenery for which this part of the world is justly famous.

Just to the south of Bude, my wife Liz and I made a few visits to various beaches and coves along this coast during our two week holiday here in September 2019, taking in the wonderful views and lively Atlantic weather.

Our late afternoon excursion to Widemouth Bay found the coastline bathed in a mixture of golden light and shadow as broken clouds rolled by overhead, allowing shafts of sunlight to play over the landscape.

Of course I took full advantage of the changing conditions, taking dozens of photographs featuring different aspects of the cornish scenery under varying light.

This view is looking south over Widemouth Bay at low tide from high up on the clifftop, featuring the unusual linear rock formations on the beach, backed by mudstone cliffs that seem to be eroding at an alarming rate.
