The story behind this image

Once or twice a year my wife Liz and I will make a pilgrimage away from our normal stomping grounds in North Wales and venture further south to the area of the Snowdonia National Park around Fairbourne, Barmouth and the stunning Mawddach estuary on the mid Wales coast.

Before reaching the coast however, we always turn aside and drive up into the mountains to spend a couple of hours hiking around the beautiful Cregennan Lakes, set high above the estuary and surrounded by lovely mountain scenery.

Of course, it helps enormously if the weather's nice, as this part of the world can be pretty miserable when it rains, which it often does!

So in the light of a good weather forecast we set off in June 2017 for a day out in southern Snowdonia, with a hike around Cregennan Lakes the first item on our agenda.

Towards the end of our circumnavigation of the two lakes we came across some sheep grazing in a field in the summer sunshine, a scene so typical of Snowdonia it's almost a cliché, except it would normally be raining!.

With the larger of the two Cregennan Lakes and lookout hill in the background, the scene was sufficiently arresting for us to stop and take a few photos before moving on back to our parked car for the short drive down to the coast and the delights of the Mawddach estuary.
