The story behind this image

The small fishing village of Clovelly, on the North Devon coast, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in this part of the country, with its 'olde worlde' charms of steep cobbled streets, traditional cottages and picturesque harbour.

Just a short drive from our holiday cottage near Bude, spending a day here was an obvious choice for my wife Liz and I as part of our two week stay spent exploring Devon and Cornwall.

Although the school summer holidays were over Clovelly was still pretty busy on the day we visited, and it was quite a challenge to try and photograph the views without including too many bodies in the compositions.

So we took a leisurely stroll down the cobblestone lanes to the harbour, spending quite a bit of time just sitting on the high harbour wall in the sunshine, licking one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted.

But of course, I soon got bored with just sitting doing nothing, so while Liz enjoyed a prolonged relax I set off with camera in hand to record some of the sights in and around the harbour.

As it was low tide I was able to get down onto the exposed sand at the base of the harbour wall to capture this image, featuring the weatherbeaten stones of the wall and an the old wooden access ladder and pilings, looking like they've seen better days but highly photogenic in their worn condition.
