The story behind this image

Having watched the Sky Arts 2021 Landscape Artist of the Year, won by the amazing Ophelia Redpath, my wife Liz and I were determined to find Dinas Oleu, the National Trust vantage point from which she painted her winning commission of the view out over Barmouth on the west coast of Wales.

Well, Dinas Oleu took some finding, and there was a serious bit of climbing to contend with to reach the viewpoint, but the reward was some amazing views out over the town of Barmouth, the Mawddach estuary and the small town of Fairbourne over on the opposite bank of the Mawddach.

We arrived just an hour or so before sunset, the best time of the day, with golden light spilling across the landscape.

Perfect conditions for a photo or two, including the twelve individual overlapping frames I captured to create this panoramic collage of the scene.
