The story behind this image

One day in early spring my wife Liz and I, plus a few friends, were enjoying a nice evening outdoors in our back garden, keeping warm around a well fed fire pit.

As the flames died away to leave red hot glowing embers I thought to myself - 'that would make quite a striking image'.

No sooner thought than done, and my camera was out and mounted on my tripod in the blink of an eye.

It took me a few test shots to dial in the exposure just as I wanted it, with the light coming off the embers very heavily weighted towards the red end of the spectrum.

But the final images give off a real feeling of warmth, which was the effect I as trying to achieve, mimicking the warmth of the dying fire on our hands and faces.
