The story behind this image

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in late March when my wife Liz and I decided to head to our nearest bit of coast at Flint, on the side of the river Dee estuary, to take a look at the imposing castle ruins and have a walk along the North Wales coastal path.

Centuries ago this castle was right by the sea, but over time the estuary silted up and now it's only a few times a year that the tide reaches as far as the castle walls.

But even so, the castle, with its imposing stonework and turrets, makes for a great photographic subject, especially when the heavens above are partly covered in a sheet of white high altitude cloud and the golden castle walls glow in the sun against a deep blue sky.

I hope that this edifice will be around for a long time yet.
