Although most of the two weeks my wife Liz and I spent in northern Italy in the autumn of 2018 was taken up driving around the beautiful lakes that adorn this region, we did also take the odd drive up into the mountains, following the tiny roads shown on our tourist map.
One such trip took us from the shores of the beautiful Lake Idro up a winding road through forests towards the medieval town of Bagolino.
The scenery on the way up to Bagolino was spectacuar, with mountain peaks emerging from between the densly packed trees that carpeted the slopes.
Being a very narrow road it was hard to stop to take a photo until we passed a convenient layby , allowing me to get out and frame up this dramatic composition, capturing some of the beauty and grandeur of the unfolding landscape.
