The beautiful landscapes of the Lake District in the north of England were resplendant in the summer sunshine as my wife Liz and I took a drive north on the first day of our long weekend break in July 2020.
We were headed for Wastwater, a lake we'd never been to before with fantastic views of Scafell Pike and other mountains, according to our guide book.
But we certainly took our time getting there, as driving through the region of Eskdale I just had to keep stopping to admire and photograph the quintessentially english views on offer.
Such as this babbling brook flowing under an old stone arch bridge, just wide enough to get our car over.
It was lovely to take a short break down by the banks of the stream and listen to the water gurgling along over submerged rocks while enjoying a locally made ice cream.
