Voted 'Britain's Best View' back in 2007, Wastwater was at the top of my wife Liz's and my 'must see' list for our long weekend break in England's stunning Lake District at the end of July 2020.
The weather for our visit to Wastwater couldn't have been better, with beautiful sunshine and a sky puncuated with light, fluffy cumulus clouds which cast moving shadows on the landscape below.
Mind you, it took us much longer to get to Wastwater than we thought.
As we drove up through the gorgeous countryside of Eskdale I just had to keep stopping to photograph the lovely views that unfolded before us around every bend in the road.
But we made it to Wastwater eventually in the late afternoon and just stood there, jaw dropped, at the picture perfect scene.
With the high peaks of Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Pillar surrounding the end of the lake, sunlight and shadow playing across the undulating terrain and white cumulus clouds floating by overhead, all reflecting in the relatively calm surface of the water, it was a view to die for.
So of course, the camera soon came out and I got busy shooting video, time lapse and loads of still images of the picture perfect scene while the light was so good.
Including this panoramic collage, showing the entire sweep of Wastwater and the surrounding mountains, together with some other tourists camping on the lakeshore.
