During August 2020 my wife Liz and I spent a fair amount of our spare time exploring the sights along the tidal banks of the River Mersey, from New Brighton on the tip of the Wirral Peninsula down to Seacombe Dock, home of the world famous Mersey Ferry and a great place to view and photograph the dramatic Liverpool skyline on the far side of the river.
On a previous evening to this time lapse shoot we'd spent an hour and a half filming the transition from day to night over most of the length of the Liverpool waterfront, taking in tall skyscapers, the famous 'Three Graces' and the new Liverpool museum building.
You can check out that shoot by visiting my Merseyside Time Lapse #5 video page.
Anyhow, on that occasion I was well impressed by how the iconic Royal Liver Building, the most well known of the 'Three Graces', was lit up once darkness had fallen, so I resolved to return and shoot another day to night time lapse video, zoomed in on the Royal Liver Building itself.
You can see the result of that return effort by visiting my Merseyside Time Lapse #6 video page.
, and I enjoyed very much watching and filming as the building lit up, especially as, towards the end of the shoot, we were treated to an illumination show of changing coloured lights on the facades and towers of this historic architecture. This single image is one of the hundreds that I captured to create the time lapse, and shows the Royal Liver Building in one of its colourful guises during that few minutes that the illumination light show lasted.
