The story behind this image

A chilly afternoon in November, and my wife Liz and I were out braving the cold breeze with a bracing and fast paced walk along the North Shore promenade at Llandudno on the North Wales coast.

Having been stuck indoors for seemingly an age due to dismal weather we were definitely suffering from cabin fever, so this short break when a ridge of high pressure briefly settled over North Wales was not to be missed.

I was also suffering from photographic withdrawl symptoms, and badly in need of a fix, so despite the cold I stopped every few yards to shoot a series of images as we strode along.

The light was sporadic to say the least, with large banks of clouds drifting by, casting a patchwork of sunlight and shadow over the scene.

So when a prolonded spell of direct sunlight hit the Great Orme headland at the far end of Llandudno Bay I didn't waste any time in jumping down onto the shingle beach to shoot a series of overlapping frames to capture the scene as a panoramic collage, using the curved sweep of the beach as a leading line to draw attention to the Orme itself.

Then, back home, a 'Blend to Panorama' command in Adobe Lightroom put it all together for me, ready for my usual image enhancements.
