The story behind this image

A brief break in the damp, grey November weather was all the excuse my wife Liz and I needed to get out of the house for some much needed exercise and fresh air.

And with the North Wales coast just a short drive away it was a no brainer to head westwards along the A55 for a walk by the seaside at the premier resort of Llandudno.

Llandudno has a unique layout, with both north facing and west facing shores.

The North Shore is where all the tourist attractions are, whereas the West Shore is much quieter and less developed.

And seeing as we arrived in the afternoon, it was to the West Shore we went for our walk, in order to benefit from the warmth of the winter sunshine and for a bit of peace and quiet.

The tide was out on this occasion, allowing us access to the huge expanse of exposed sand and shingle that makes the West Shore such a dynamic landscape - it's never the same twice!

This image shows the view along the beach, with the limestone monolith of the Great Orme catching the golden sunlight at the far end of the bay.

Just a wonderful place to be, especially when the sun shines.
