The story behind this image

One of the most beautiful and varied stretches of water in the world, this is part of the Menai Straits, running between the Isle of Anglesey and the North Wales mainland.

My wife Liz and I often come to this spot near the Anglesey Sea Zoo around sunset, to watch night fall over the waters of the Straits and the mountains of Snowdonia beyond.

There's also a dramatic tide running through the Straits so the view of the shoreline is constantly changing, and I especially enjoy filming time lapse videos here as the old, decayed concrete and wooden jetty shown in this image gets covered and revealed as the sea level rises and falls.

This panoramic collage shows the view along a goodly portion of the Straits, and takes in the entire sweep of the mountains of Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula, glowing in the last rays of the setting sun.
