My wife Liz and I had finished a bracing stroll around the Marine Lake at West Kirby on the Wirral, and with the afternoon still young, on a whim, we decided to drive around the top of the Wirral Peninsula to see what was there.
Well, was I in for a surprise!
Stopping at the top right hand corner of the Wirral at New Brighton, on the mouth of the River Mersey, an amazing vista of the Liverpool waterfront opened up before us.
First and foremost my attention was grabbed by the line of huge red cranes across the estuary at the Liverpool 2 Container Terminal, standing tall and proud in the gleaming summer sun.
So I took advantage of the opportunity to capture a series of overlapping images in order to create this panoramic collage, taking in not only the cranes but also the New Brighton beach and lighthouse at low tide.
Quite an extraordinary view!
