Interesting weather, magnificent scenery, great company - all ingredients for a great day out hiking in the Snowdonia National Park with my extended family.
Our chosen route took myself, my wife Liz, our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren from the Ogwen Valley visitors' centre up the well worn path to Llyn Idwal in the Glyderau mountain range, around the lake and back down again.
The views in every direction were breathtaking, but especially looking northwards towards the Carneddau mountains, with dramatic clouds scraping the summit of Pen Yr Ole Wen as patches of sunlight played across the landscape in front of us.
This view of Pen Yr Ole Wen was captured from the shore of Llyn Idwal, and shows the mountain cast into shadow by passing clouds, constrasting vividly with the sunlit foreground.
