The story behind this image

After a couple of years' worth of gentle encouragement by my wife Liz I finally agreed for us to take a day trip to one of the top tourist attractions in North Wales, the somewhat iconic Italiante village of Portmeirion.

The only fact that I knew about Portmeirion was that the classic '60s cult TV series 'The Prisoner' was filmed there, so I didn't really know what to expect.

Fortunately for us we chose a lovely day in early July to visit, with bright sun and blue skies bringing out the best of the vivid colours in which most of the buildings are painted.

Well, I was won over as soon as we walked through the entrance, with so many beautiful and quirky ornate buildings to look at, set with care for the visual aesthetic around lovely landscaped gardens.

Our viewing of the village and its surrounding estates was somewhat leisurely, with me stopping every few yards to take yet another photo of yet another eye catching arrangement of colourful buildings and gardens.

This view out over the Afon Dwyryd estuary shows off the beautiful location of the lower part of the village, nestled right next to the shore and lookingh absolutely stunning.
