The crisp, clear light over the Atlantic Ocean was a photographer's dream as I stood against the railing of our cruise ship, looking towards the receding island of Madeira, silhouetted on the horizon against a beautiful sunset.
We'd spent a wonderful day exploring this magical island, just a dot in the middle of the ocean but with so much to see and enjoy.
And this light show, as we sailed away at the end of the day, was the icing on the cake.
My only concern was shooting handheld, as tripods don't really work well on ships, but in the end I had no problem getting sharp images as the sun sank slowly into the ocean.
