The story behind this image

One of the local 'hidden gems' that my wife Liz and I discovered during our coronavirus lockdown exercise walks during the spring of 2020 was the footpath alongside the river Alyn at Meashafn in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), near our home in North Wales.

Enclosed in a steep sided gorge, lined with trees and carpeted with wild garlic, walking this path was like stepping back into another world, with the only sounds being the burble of the stream at our feet, the breeze in the trees above our heads and the occasional flurry of a wood pigeon disturbed by our passage.

Towards the end of the gorge we came across this delightful old stone arch bridge over the river, slowly being taken over by the ever enroaching foliage, and looking completely at one with its natural surroundings.

Just a wonderful finale to a delightful walk.

I'm certainly going to come back here later in the year to see how the scene looks in its autumn colours - can't wait!
