The story behind this image

The Snowdonia National Park in North Wales is a real 'bare bones' landscape, with exposed rocks, boulders and smaller stones everywhere you look.

And none more so than on the approach to the Glyderau mountain range from Llyn Ogwen up to LLyn Idwal and beyond up into the aptly named 'Devil's Kitchen'.

Walking along the well maintained path up to Llyn Idwal on an unusually sunny day in late March, my wife Liz and I both noticed this improbably balanced boulder perched on the top of a short rise.

Outlined against the pretty sky, and catching the sunlight I couldn't help but stop to capture a few views of the boulder before carrying on along the path to Idwal and yet more rocky and beautiful Snowdonia scenery.
