The story behind this image

There's not many undeveloped places left to enjoy on the south coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, but during our week long winter sun break in Janaury 2020 my wife Liz and I managed to find one at La Caleta.

Normally when we're on holiday we shy away from the popular tourist hotspots, preferring instead to explore the lesser known and unspoilt regions.

But we did take an afternoon to stroll along the seaside promenade, starting at our resort at Costa Adeje and heading westwards along the coast.

The furthest point westward we could get to was La Caleta, a charming little seaside village built around a small bay formed of a shelf of volcanic lava and pounded by the Atlantic swells.

We really enjoyed the hour or so we spent wandering around the seafront, backstreets and cliffs, photographing all the while of course!

This is a view from the cliffs bordering La Caleta, looking to the northwest along the unspoilt and relatively inacessible coastline, with the wonderful colour contrast between the azure ocean and ochre volcanic landscape to enjoy.
