Not matter where you are in Tenerife, it's a good bet you can see the imposing summit of Mount Teide looming up in the centre of the island.
And it was exploring Mount Teide and its surrounding volcanic landscapes that was one of the main reasons my wife Liz and I chose Tenerife for our Canary Island winter sun break in Janaury 2020.
Of course, the closer you can get to a volcano, the better the view, so we spent quite a good proportion of our holiday week at high altitude in the Teide National Park, marvelling at Mount Teide and the amazing rock formations in the huge ancient caldera of the Las Canadas volcano.
At this altitude the air was crystal clear, and the bright sunlight brought out all the richness of the colours of the lava, so I was pretty busy with my camera and polarising filter, capturing various views of Mount Teide and the surrounding landscapes as we drove from one end of the park to the other.
