The story behind this image

A relatively calm evening on the North Wales coast at Llandudno allowed me to fit my longest lens to my camera and photograph the offshore turbines of the Gwynt y Môr wind farm, far out in Colwyn Bay.

To me, the turbines have made the view out to sea from the North Wales coast much more interesting than it was (although some would disagree!), and given suitable conditions I will always try and include them in a photo or video.

This particular evening the sun was playing hide and seek in the clouds behind me, casting patches of sunlight and shadow over the turbines under a threatening sky.

And it was the stark nature of the lighting that made this image work for me, with the foremost turbines in shadow while those further out to sea were still in sunlight.

A few seconds later and the shadows had engulfed all the turbines, rendering the scene flat and without interest.

Never mind though, as those few seconds of glorious light were worth the effort to capture on silicon.
