Youghal Beach #1

Decaying wooden post on Youghal beach, County Cork, Ireland

The story behind this image

Who doesn't like walking on a deserted beach in the sunshine?

Especially when sunny days are the exception rather than the rule, which was certainly the case during the week long break that my wife Liz and I took on the southwest coast of Ireland.

Staying at Youghal in County Cork, we ventured up and down this stretch of wild Atlantic coast, but the nicest beach we found was right on our doorstep at Youghal itself.

So a break in the cloudy weather was all the excuse we needed to head down to Youghal beach for a couple of hours stroll along the shoreline.

We had the beach pretty much to ourselves, and I was soon revelling in the photographic opportunities laid out before me.

Such as this decaying wooden post, sticking defiantly out of a lump of broken concrete, having weathered all that the Atlantic could throw at it.

I wonder how much longer it will remain upright for?
