Youghal Beach #2

Washed up fishing net on Youghal beach, County Cork, Ireland

The story behind this image

Who doesn't like walking on a deserted beach in the sunshine?

Especially when sunny days are the exception rather than the rule, which was certainly the case during the week long break that my wife Liz and I took on the southwest coast of Ireland.

Staying at Youghal in County Cork, we ventured up and down this stretch of wild Atlantic coast, but the nicest beach we found was right on our doorstep at Youghal itself.

So a break in the cloudy weather was all the excuse we needed to head down to Youghal beach for a couple of hours stroll along the shoreline.

We had the beach pretty much to ourselves, and I was soon revelling in the photographic opportunities laid out before me.

One such was this washed up piece of fishing net which caught my eye.

The colour contrast of the green net against the red gold of the sand, combined with the crescent shape of the net laid over the striated linear patterns of the windswept beach was visually compelling, and I took a deal of trouble taking this photo to get the arrangement of parts just how I wanted them.
