The North Wales coast, near where I live, is punctuated by a series of 13th century castles built by the english king Edward the First to supress the welsh.
One of the finest examples is the castle at Conway, overlooking the tidal Conwy estuary, now a UNESCO world heritage site and a magnet for tourists and photographers alike.
I myself have made many still images and time lapse videos of the castle and estuary in the past but you know what? There's always room for just one more!
No matter how many times one photographs the castle, light, tide and weather conditions are never the same twice and there's always a unique twist to every image or video.
On this occasion, in the spring of 2017, we had the rare combination of clear skies, little breeze and a high tide at sunset.
Ideal circumstances to capture the transition from day to night over the castle as darkness falls and the artificial lights come on, illuminating the castle walls which reflect in the quiet-ish waters below.
So after a coffee and wrap from the local McDonalds my wife Liz and I parked up overlooking the Conwy estuary, and while Liz knitted her way through a pair of socks I set up my camera and tripod to record the hundreds of frames needed to make this time lapse video.
It turned out to be a beautiful evening, with the lights of the castle and adjacent harbour providing a glowing counterpoint to the gathering darkness.
After an hour and a half's shooting, and with the sky almost completely devoid of light, I finally packed up and we wound our way home along the A55, happy at having witnessed such a lovely spectacle, and having been able to record what happened for future enjoyment as well.
