Honister Pass Timelapse #1

The story behind this video

One of my pleasures is driving, and when on holiday I'll seek out interesting and challenging roads to explore.

So when my wife Liz and I decided on a long weekend in England's Lake District, out came the maps to plan some routes.

I was fortunate in that, along with a lot of lakes, the Lake District also has a lot of mountains, crisscrossed with some great, narrow, winding roads.

One such is the Honister Pass, linking Seatoller to Buttermere.

With a 1 in 4 gradient at places and spectacular views, the Honister Pass proved to be a great drive, and to cap it all there's a slate mine and cafe at the highest point, which is where we stopped for a cuppa and for me to shoot the hundreds of still images needed to create this time lapse sequence.

The weather this high up was dramatic to say the least, with a stiff breeze blowing heavy storm clouds over the surrounding peaks, and I only just managed to get my shoot in before a squall passed by, drenching everything and everyone in driving rain.

Still, we didn't come up the Honister Pass expecting to sunbathe!
