The story behind this video

The promise of a partial lunar eclipse in the summer skies over the North Wales coast had me checking my Photograhers' Ephemeris app to find a suitable spot to film the event from.

With the sun setting over the sea to the northwest, and the eclipsed moon rising over the land to the southeast, my choices were somewhat limited, but I eventually settled on the Great Orme at Llandudno, giving a view of the moon rising in eclipse over Llandudno Bay.

So I hauled myself and my fully laden LowePro, plus tripod, up to my chosen vantage point, set everything up and started filming as the light faded away from the eastern horizon.

I had to wait quite a while for the moon to finally appear from behind a bank of cloud, rising over a rapidly darkening twilight scene, with the lights of the town and promendade of Llandudno glowing brightly out into the night.

I kept on shooting until the sky was almost dark before changing lenses to capture another time lapse sequence featuring just the partially eclipsed moon tracking through the night sky.

Finally it was time to pack up and head back down to my parked car by torchlight, buzzing at having witnessed such a lovely and enigmatic celestial event in such a beautiful location.
