The summer of 2018 was special for many reasons, but mostly for the unprecedented spell of hot weather in late June and early July.
Taking advantage of the conditions, my wife Liz and I spent a Staurday evening, night and early Sunday morning at one of our favourite spots on the North Wales coast at Penmon Point on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, intent on seeing the wonderful display of bioluminescence that had been occuring here over the past few nights.
Planning on staying for a long time, and with low tide happening just before sunset, I thought to combine our hunt for the glowing plankton with shooting a time lapse video of the tide coming in around the famous lighthouse and geologically wonderful rock formations that make this part of the coast so special.
In the end, I shot six hours of time lapse footage in four stages, from 8.30pm to 2.30am, covering the entire tidal range from before sunset, on through dusk, twilight and into night, until the sky to the northeast started to perceptively lighten with the approaching dawn of the next day.
A wonderful experience and a great time lapse sequence, but no bioluminescence to be seen!
Never mind, it's a great excuse to spend another night in this most unique place.
